Learn how to set up an Etsy shop, from start to finish! I’m sharing with you the EXACT formula I used to set up my shop – MontiTod Designs. Make some extra cash from home easily with Etsy. Perfect for SAHM’s and anyone looking to turn their creativity into a tidy profit!

1. Choose the Perfect Name for Your Shop

Here’s how to set up an Etsy shop with a name that will contribute to the success of the business!

Choose a name that has relevance to the product you’re selling. Use keywords that will help your shop show up in the Etsy search engine!

For example, if you want to start a business selling candles, ensure that the world ‘candles’ in your shop name.

Then think about the unique selling point of your candles. If it’s the case that you’re using soy wax, and you think people will be searching for ‘soy wax candles’ then a name as simple as “Soy Wax Candles by Sophie” will bring candle customers right to you.

2. Set Up a Business Email

You’ll want to keep your personal email separate from your business, and you’ll need an email address to register with Etsy as a shop.

It’s the email address you’ll get notifications to when you make your first sale! So try to use a different platform to your main address.

For example, if you usually use Outlook, set up your business email on Gmail. That way you can download the second email app to your phone and you won’t have to switch back and forth between accounts to check for new customer activity.

3. Make Some Creative Imagery

Making a logo and an Etsy shop banner is easy-peasy! Don’t think that you need to hire a graphic designer or pay an artist to design one for you.

Platforms like Canva are super simple to use and are free, too! They have templates already sized perfectly for your logo and shop banner.

Just type ‘Etsy’ into the search bar to find the template you need.

4. Optimise your Listings

Take great photos of your products – Use the best camera you’ve got! Good quality images go a long way towards swaying a customer to click ‘Buy’.

Cover all angles, and if possible shoot on a neutral background to catch the details without distraction. If you want, you can also add a styled image to add some appeal and show the product in action.

Choose your best items and set them as ‘Featured’ to show at the top of your shop page.

Here are some examples of imagery from my own Etsy shop, MontiTod Designs, which sells educational materials for young children;

When you’re writing up the description for your product, be sure to use your product keywords in the product title. Repeat the keywords in your description, and sell your product with details that may be appealing to customers.

Make sure to mention if your item is handmade, original, or designed by you.

5. Use Social Media to Drive Traffic

Re-use all your product imagery to create posts on Instagram or Pinterest. These will get your products in front of more eyes, and hopefully, increase your sales!

Etsy provides handy analytical tools so you can keep track of where your traffic is coming from.

Once all your listings are up and your socials are spreading the word, all there is to do is wait! Set up your bank details with Etsy and enjoy as you get the great satisfaction of orders coming in. Etsy will tell you when you’ve reached the milestones of 10, 20 sales and beyond!
