Are you ticking all the boxes for being a stressed mum? Feeling tired, stressed or overwhelmed? Everybody knows that for mothers in particular, self-care is important. And it’s essential for us to check in with ourselves regularly to preserve our mental wellbeing.

Stressed Mum Status

As a mum, it’s extremely easy to get close to burnout territory, and the reason for that is that we are so busy, and often have no control over when we’re going to get a break.

So planning an evening of self-care and pampering? Not always possible.

Here are some great quick-fix ideas to refill your emotional fuel tank in 10 minutes or less!

Meditate

Take a moment for yourself. Use an app to guide your meditation or try it freestyle. Just try to focus on a particular feeling or thought, and quiet all the other mum thoughts that flap around your brain all day. You’ll feel better for it!

Moisturise

Moisturise? For wellbeing? Yes, that’s right! Well-being is physical, mental, emotional, and everything else. If your body feels good, you feel good. Get some moisture on you girl, don’t neglect that beautiful skin of yours. Make it shine.

Face Mask

Tried and true. I challenge you to find anyone who doesn’t enjoy pampering themselves with a little face mask. Quick, simple, and guaranteed to make you feel a little more like a queen when you’re
done.

Call someone for a chat

RIP the traditional phone call. These days it’s all about the DM, getting left on read, or having broken conversations that take two hours to progress two sentences. Just pick up the phone and call your best friend. Talk for ten minutes and you’re guaranteed to laugh out loud or feel better about that problem that’s been on your mind.

Journal

Get introspective. What are you grateful for today? What really ticked you off? Put it all on paper and feel the weight lift as those thoughts pour out of your head.

Light some candles

If you can light some candles in a baby-safe way, away from little hands – do it! Add a little ambiance to the room, relax, unwind. Rest those tired eyes in some warm candlelight tonight.

Check your Horoscope

Positive Affirmation Cards

A little bit of mindfulness goes a long way when you’re stressed out and overwhelmed. One of the many flaws of humans is that we find it easy to fall into a hole of negativity, especially when it’s directed at ourselves.

Taking some moments out of the day to remember your self worth and focus on the positive can be a mind-saver.

Keep a deck of positive affirmations handy. Pick one up each day and set aside a moment to think about what the cards message is. Can you apply it to how you’ve been feeling today? Was it a good reminder that you’re worthy of some positivity? Of course it was.

Read a Self-Help Book

Sometimes, you’ve just got to leave it to the experts. Let someone else take the wheel of your life and take the advice of those who have the qualifications you lack when it comes to psychological wellbeing.

I myself have learned many a good trick and tip from a self-help book. I love it when someone comes up with a suggestion that will improve my day to day life! They’re a great source of ideas for better coping mechanisms, communication tools and more.

Self-help books on Audible are a great way to learn whilst getting on with your busy life at the same time. Pop on a book while you walk around the block with the pram, clean the house or even while you’re breastfeeding!

Get Organised

Trying to focus on your wellbeing while your house is a mess and your mind is scattered, doesn’t work. Taking ten minutes just to plan out your week or your day makes a great foundation for everything else.

Using a daily or weekly planner is a quick way to boost your productivity and tidy your thoughts. Forget less, and do more – because it’s all planned out! The perfect quick-fix for a stressed mum.

Step Outside

There are genuine proven mental and physical health benefits of spending time outdoors. Being outside can lower your blood pressure and reduce your anxiety. It’ll also give you a healthy Vitamin D boost!

On top of that, being outdoors increases your chances of social interaction. As a Mum, sometimes you don’t realise how long you’ve been cooped up indoors. It’s only once you start having a chat with someone that you realise. Speaking to another adult can be a great relief from the stress of repeating the same things over to your unruly kids!

Take a ten minute walk or go and sit in the garden. You’ll feel better for it.

Boost Your Wellbeing With Tea

If ten minutes to boost your wellness is all you’ve got today – don’t underestimate the power of tea!

There’s a herbal tea remedy for everything, you just have to look for it. Feeling bloated? Have a peppermint tea. Stress related insomnia? Try a cup of chamomile before bed tonight.
