Wondering How to Start A YouTube Channel?

Find Your Niche

What makes your life unique? We all come from different walks in life, and we all have a story to tell. Think about what sets you apart from others, and utilise that to turn it into your channel niche. Got a special skill, or an interesting job? Jot down some ways that you could teach or inspire others on the subject. If you can think of many ways – you’ve got your niche!

Pick a Name

Now that you’ve picked your niche, you need to think of a name that will help the right viewers find you. If you want to grab viewers looking for Mum content, incorporate ‘Mum’ in the name, or your location. Alternatively, you could just use your actual name if you’re comfortable with that.

Design Your Branding

Use a platform like Canva to design an attractive banner image and your watermark. You can then add these under the ‘Branding’ tab via the ‘Customisation’ button on your YouTube channel settings.

Get Set Up For Filming

You can go all out and get yourself a good-quality DSLR or vlogging camera to film with. But, if you’re on a budget you can start off just filming on your phone. You’ll need a tripod, and perhaps a ring light, to get started.

Create your Backdrop

Find a nice spot in your home with a good backdrop for filming. Think about whether you want to use the same space every time, or switch it up! Make the setting nice with a houseplant, flowers, or use coloured paper for a professional look and contrast.

For more detail on this here’s an in-depth video on how to create a professional-looking filming backdrop.

Now that you’ve learned how to start a YouTube channel, all that’s left is to film your first video!

Don’t let insecurities hold you back, just bite the bullet and get it done! With every video, you’ll find your style more and more, until there’s no stopping you. Persist, be consistent and the subscribers will come!
