How To Decorate A Small Toddler Bedroom; Wall Mural

Last updated on August 16th, 2021 at 10:31 am

Welcome to my Toddler Bedroom tour! My house is a typical 3-bed starter home. In the UK, many of these types of dwellings have a box room – which more often than not becomes the baby nursery.

When they’re tiny and immobile, the room serves nicely as a functioning small nursery – but what about when they grow? Converting the room to a toddlers room can be a really fun process!

When I was decorating, I really enjoyed browsing Pinterest for toddler bedroom ideas and inspiration. My sons room is still a working progress and will change and evolve as he grows, but I thought it would be fun to share what it currently looks like!

This Tutti Bambini cot bed is such a sentimental piece to me! One of the first things I bought while pregnant, I still remember laying my son in it when he was a tiny newborn. As he grew, it converted to a lower height cot and then eventually to a toddler bed. It’s designed to last the child from birth to about 6 years! Well worth the money. And aesthetically, it’s stunning.

This TROFAST storage from Ikea can be attached to the wall, but I keep it within my Son’s reach. In its place on the floor, he can access all his toys when he wants, and it’s super quick to tidy up.

A Reading Space

Creating a cosy reading area in a toddler room is essential. Firstly, it reinforces an important part of the bedtime routine – the bedtime story. Secondly, it’s also an opportunity to add texture and a sensory element to the room. Cosy soft fabrics like a fluffy faux sheepskin rug are inviting for little hands to feel and comfy for little bums to sit on.

To house his books, I participated in the popular IKEA spice rack hack. The natural wood goes beautifully with the room décor and nature theme.

Creating the Wall Mural

This was a fairly simple bit of DIY that only took one day to do. All it required was four pots of paint: the background, two mountain colours and white for the snow caps. We marked the wall with pencil first and kept it simple so as not to overbear the small room with anything too complicated.
By no means are we artists or interior designers, so we didn’t push the boat out, but I love the finished result! It elevates the whole room and set the tone for everything else in it.
