Spring Cleaning! The Baby Edit;

We’ve never spent more time in our homes, so this years spring cleaning might be the most needed one in recent memory!

Spring Cleaning; Why do we do it?

Spring cleaning is not only good for your house, it’s good for your health. It’s easy to forget that certain areas of your home are a hotbed for germs and bacteria – something you need to think about especially when you have young kids!

So how do you alter your usual spring cleaning checklist to cater for a household with a baby? Here are some tips for how to blitz those germs around your little ones most frequented spaces!

The Bath

Bath toys, of course, have to feature high up on the list of germy baby items. We’ve all heard horror stories of squeaky bath ducks harbouring dangerous mould spores, so its best to avoid buying any toys that can’t be properly air-dried inside and out. However, even the safer versions will still need a good anti-bacterial clean every once in a while.

Fill up a tub or the bath with some cold water, pop the toys in and drop in a Milton sterilising tablet. Leave the tablet to do its magic!

Wooden Toys

While the Milton soak trick works wonders on plastic, wooden toys are another story. Since you can’t soak them without likely causing damage, spritz them with a mix of 50% water and 50% white vinegar. This little DIY cleaning hack is super easy and effective, you can recycle an old spray bottle or designate a bottle like this for your home-made kid-friendly cleaning mixes.

The High Chair

If you’ve got a child of weaning age, it’s guaranteed that the High Chair is the epicentre of mess in your kitchen. You might think that cleaning it is as simple as swiping it with anti-bac, just like you would do with your kitchen side.

However, your baby will no doubt be dropping food on the tray or sometimes be directly eating off it. Therefore it’s a good idea to use a milder product to clean it, rather than harsh chemicals that you want to avoid ending up in their mouth. Vital Sanitising Water kills 99% of germs and is safe to use on items that will go in a babies mouth, even from newborn age.

The Baby’s Room

It’s really important to give thought to the hygiene around your baby’s cot. Of course, you’ll be constantly changing the sheets to combat reflux spit-ups, teething dribbles and unfortunate night time nappy leaks! But your cot mattress, over time, is a breeding ground for dust mites and a sponge for dust, pollen, pet dander and other allergens.

Cot Mattress Allergens

Make your spring clean count by taking the time to hoover the mattress and eliminate airborne irritants that could aggravate allergies for your child.

A nursery-friendly Hepa Filter in the room will trap particles in the air and do the work for you, in between deep cleans. The Levoit Air Purifier was voted one of the best Hepa Filters for a baby’s room by Whattoexpect.com, thanks to its ultra-quiet sleep mode.
