How to Dress For Your New Mum Body (UK)

I’ve done some style research, and here are the top tips and tricks I’ve learned for how to dress for your new Mum body and lifestyle.

I don’t know about you, but after I had a baby I suddenly found myself with a wardrobe full of clothes I couldn’t wear.

Either they didn’t fit my new cup size, my new waistline, or my new sense of self as a mum!

I must admit, there was a lengthy postpartum period of just living in loungewear (bliss).

But, now life is looking more normal again, and (sigh) I have to get out and about and do more. But, what do I wear now?

I don’t want to wear the little cropped tops and tight jeans that were my faves when I was in a different place in my life.

With the introduction of the baby, I’ve changed, along with my measurements!

Updating Your Denim

I used to LOVE a good pair of tight, figure-hugging skinny jeans! They were my go-to for daytime looks. But now?

Being a mum involves so much movement! Crouching down, crawling around, playing with little ones!

The last thing we want is restrictive denim digging into us all day long – and perhaps squashing a few new curves we might have acquired.

Therefore I’ve been on the lookout for the perfect denim pieces – comfortable yet not compromising in style value!

These ‘Slouchy Paper Bag Jeans‘ from Pull & Bear are an amazing choice for a new mum!

They’re not restrictive and won’t impact your busy day-to-day activities. And at the same time, they’re a stylish and easy option for putting a nice outfit together quickly.

Show Some Love for the High Waist

For many new mums, the tummy area can be a source of anxiety.

It can be tough to adjust to a new shape that you didn’t have before! But it’s as simple as knowing how to dress to flatter your figure.

These Pull & Bear ‘High Waist White Jeans‘ are perfect for this!

For anyone who may be conscious about their belly, a high-waist is the best way to go.

The simplicity of these jeans means they’ll go with absolutely everything, which means less time spent thinking about what to wear.

Comfortable, beautiful, flattering, what more could you ask for!

Practicality is Everything!

How many times have you put on a nice top, only for your kid to grab hold of you with their grubby hands and put an unsightly mark on it?

To save time running up and down the stairs to change my clothes, or to save me looking shabby in public, I love to layer!

Overshirts like this one from Mango are perfect for creating a cool look and also covering up the bolognese handprint on your T-Shirt!

Simply take it off and put it somewhere safe at lunchtime/dinner, or if you’re out and about at a restaurant.

Then put it back on after everyone’s finished eating and got cleaned up.

Perfect for saving you from messy play too! Voila! Clean, crisp stylish outfit all day long.

Something a Little More Sophisticated…

& Other Stories is the perfect choice for chic looks that are on trend but not as garish and revealing as some brands aimed at a less mature buyer.

What could be more fun than making you and your little BFF look like two peas in a pod?

Luckily, & Other Stories are totally on board with the aesthetic and have designed some gorgeous pieces for you and your mini-me to match in!
